Jaisalmer city, in the district of Jaisalmer nestled in the heart of the Thar Desert on India’s western border, boasts the distinction of being the largest district in the country, surpassing even the expanse of Kerala state. Yet, its past was marred by hardships, with scant resources and basic facilities leaving residents to struggle. Medical care was particularly lacking, forcing locals to rely solely on government services, even for routine surgeries. There are a lot of villages in and around Jaisalmer city which look upon this hospital for all medical facilities. One of the biggest hospitals in Jaisalmer district. Our hospital covers many villages surrounding Jaisalmer city.
Fueled by a deep-rooted desire to uplift their homeland, expatriates turned their gaze towards the medical field, recognizing its pivotal role in the region’s development alongside prospects in tourism, mineral industries, and the Indira Gandhi Canal Project. Thus, with a fervent commitment to address the pressing healthcare needs, the decision was made to establish the Shri Maheshwari Hospital and Research Center.
Under the visionary leadership of late Shri Balkishanji Kothari, the Trust embarked on its mission. Initially housed in a building generously provided by the Shri Magniram Sarda and family at free no rent taken, the hospital took its first steps on December 11, 1995, with a modest 20-bed capacity and Dr. B.L. Sanwal at its helm as Chief Surgeon.
However, the Trust’s aspirations extended beyond makeshift facilities. With unwavering dedication, Shri Champalalji Sarda spearheaded efforts to construction of a modern, fully-equipped hospital. Guided by the expertise of renowned architect Mr. Bharatji Rathi, the new edifice, spanning 75,000 square feet, emerged as a beacon of hope.
On July 5, 2008, the hospital transitioned to its new abode, symbolizing a transformative chapter in Jaisalmer’s healthcare landscape. Furthermore, the Maternity Ward, a poignant tribute to late Shri Raghunath Singh Mehta, was established through the philanthropy of Smt. Devika Krishna Maheshwari of Chennai. Her poignant gesture, fueled by personal loss, encapsulates the spirit of compassion driving the hospital’s noble mission.
